WILDFIRE UPDATE

We’re happy to report that thanks to suppression efforts, the line on the Whiteshell fire is being held. Despite yesterday’s announcement of a province wide state of emergency (due to start ups in other parts of the province), today Manitoba Parks has been able to further re-open more areas of the Whiteshell Provincial Park. While locally things are starting to feel relatively under control, we acknowledge that the landscape is still very dry. We are under a full fire ban which means that campfires are not permitted and all trails in the park are currently closed, but our resort is open and safe to visit with many other amenities to enjoy. Remarkably, throughout these wildfire events the wind has been in our favour and our air has been incredibly clear.

If you have any questions or are looking for more information about what’s happening on the ground, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Otherwise we look forward to welcoming you!

Background

Due to a wildfire that was active in the region in mid-May it was announced on May 14th that the Whiteshell Provincial Park would be closed. All visitors, commercial operators and residents were asked to evacuate within 20 hours. Our resort was shut down for 6 nights while the fire crews worked to contain the wildfire. Being well south of the fire, we are grateful for the fact that the resort was never in immediate threat of this wildfire.

Thanks to the suppression efforts of fire fighters, on May 21st Manitoba Parks was able to start a partial re-opening of the park which allowed us to come home and re-open the resort.
